Two internships are currently available:

Marketing Internship

MEJOR Communities is seeking an intern looking for opportunities/career in non-profit management and fundraising. This is a great opportunity to learn a variety of nonprofit management skills in a flexible atmosphere within a small organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or education in marketing strategies
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience with Social Media
  • Proficiency with Photoshop and/or other marketing/ design software
  • Any website management experience is a plus
  • Ability to:

  • Develop systematic approaches to similar tasks, projects and issues;
  • Express ideas clearly using written and oral communication
  • Organize workload and prioritize tasks to meet changing priorities and deadlines
  • Create and use spreadsheets to keep track of work completed
  • Work effectively in collaboration with other MEJORC board members and volunteers
  • Summary of Essential Responsibilities

  • Public Affairs / Community Outreach
  • Promoting MEJORC through appropriate publications
  • Increasing Donor Outreach and communication
  • Update affiliations on website
  • Update online profiles and calendars
  • Fundraising

  • Assisting in the planning and execution of fundraising events
  • Promoting fundraising events through various media outlets
  • Creating and updating donor databases
  • Duration: Temporary 4 months term. We may extend the opportunity depending on outcomes.

    Salary: Unpaid. Possibility for credit hours if interested.

    Location: Portland, OR. Hours are flexible; however we require 10-20 hours per week. Most work will be done from home from your personal computer. Check-in meetings with the Executive Director will be held at least once every two weeks. Great people skills and phone skills are a must.

    Grant Internship

    MEJOR Communities is seeking an intern looking for opportunities/career in non-profit management and fundraising. This is a great opportunity to learn a variety of nonprofit management skills in a flexible atmosphere within a small organization.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with/interest in public health and international development
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and basic knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Proven research, writing and editing skills to generate project summaries, draft documents and conduct topic specific research
  • Ability to:

  • Develop systematic approaches to similar tasks, projects and issues
  • Express ideas clearly using written and oral communication
  • Organize workload and prioritize tasks to meet changing priorities and deadlines
  • Create and use spreadsheets to keep track of research and applications submitted
  • Work effectively in collaboration with other MEJORC board members and volunteers
  • Proven research, writing and editing skills to generate project summaries, draft documents and develop professional grant proposals
  • Read/write in Spanish is a plus
  • Summary of Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare LOI's, and full grants with supervision
  • Manage the grant database
  • Create a plan of action to prioritize grants that most closely match our goals
  • Help set and work within grant deadlines
  • Work with our Peruvian partner to create project plans and budgets that will be included in the grant proposals
  • Duration: Temporary 6 months term. We may extend the opportunity depending on outcomes.
