About: The quipu

The quipu, also spelled khipu, is part of the MEJORC logo because it is significant in Peruvian culture.
The quipu, invented and used by the ancient Incas in Peru, is a basic accounting and communication system that uses knots at various intervals on pieces of string. The Incas were able to advance socially and technologically with the help of vast road networks and the quipu. Quipus were sent from community to community by strong runners to quickly spread information about food supply, armies, and other important business.
MEJORC chose the quipu as a symbol, because it represents progress through the quick distribution of knowledge by working together.
